Why is it important for pet owners or guardians to take a pet first aid & CPR class?

According to the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), 1 of 4 pets that experience an incident could be saved if just ONE pet first aid technique was applied prior to getting veterinary treatment. That’s a significant impact. Having the skills to respond in the event of an emergency, the knowledge to prevent common injuries and the awareness to get your dog to a veterinarian immediately in certain situations SAVES PET’S LIVES.

What do you teach in your pet first aid & CPR classes?

We are certified to teach the Pet First Aid & CPR course developed by Pet Tech®, Inc. - the first international training center dedicated to pet CPR, first aid, care and safety - in alignment with the “Handbook of Veterinary Procedures & Emergency Treatment”. Participants learn safe restraining techniques “mouth-to-snout” rescue breathing, CPR, choking management (different than the traditional “Heimlich maneuver” to accommodate canine anatomy), bleeding protocols and the ABC’s of first aid (including poisoning). They also learn the 10 situations that require IMMEDIATE veterinary care and how to take pets vital signs - a key to first aid response – along with a consistent method to regularly assess their pet’s health status. The Pet Tech® course teaches over 50 specific actions for survival. And, we provide a list of essential items for an animal first aid kit.
